SPOOKTOBER begins here at Wine and…! We’re kicking things off in style with a discussion on the best, most fascinating, most feminist, most empathetic, most Gothic and Goth Batman movie ever made, BATMAN RETURNS!!!
BATMAN RETURNS is the second to be directed by Tim Burton, with a script by Daniel Waters (Heathers, Demolition Man), and we deep dive into the many stories surrounding its making, and how and why it stacks up so high looking back, even though it was considered a disappointment upon release.
We’re joined by comic book creator Richard Fairgray, who writes and draws comics quicker than you can read them, in spite of being legally blind, with 3% vision in one eye and none in the other! (But seriously, his art is glorious, you have to check it out.)
Richard is currently working on the 4-part series The Ex-Wives of Frankenstein, a story about the two ex-wives of both the good doctor Victor and his monster when they discover that both are still alive after their journey to the Arctic, and have announced to the press that they’re gay and in a relationship. Neither man appears in the book, which only follows the two women as they navigate the wreckage left in their ex-husbands’ wake.
The fourth and final issue is currently being crowdfunded, so if the above sounds like your jam, do yourself a favor and take a gander.
It should also be noted: Richard has a lifelong crush on Danny Devito as The Penguin in BATMAN BEGINS, so our talk does turn spicy and even outright explicit at times. Be forewarned!

Fellow Substaker
posted how Queen Victoria liked to mix scotch in with her claret (aka red Bordeaux.)I’m not much of a scotch drinker, but I asked a friend of mine who was what the best relatively affordable scotch out there was, and he turned me onto Laphroaig 10 Year Single Malt that was selling for $42 at Trader Joe’s. SOLD. Tasting notes below!
