This episode is free for all, but you can also listen wherever fine podcasts are cast.
We got a special one for y’all this week: WHO’S THERE is a proof-of-concept horror film by director award-winning director, Mike Pecci, and Blacklist-winning screenwriter Will Simmons, that is not available to be viewed on any established platform.
This is also true for Mike’s previous proof-of-concept short - now set up to be a feature film at Ridely Scott’s “Scott Free” production company! - a film titled “12KM”.
Both are original horror concepts using only practical special effects!
To view either or both films, all you have to do is the following:
To view 12KM, DM Mike on Instagram your Top 3 Horror Films.
To view WHO’S THERE, DM Mike on Instagram your Top 3 Demonic Horror Films. (Any film featuring demons or demonic possession.)
Feel free to just DM Mike both at the same time / in the same DM. Tehn be a bit patient. 12KM has gone viral multiple times and his DM inbox is a bit harried. But he now has an assistant helping him wade through it all and his repsonse time is apparently much improved.
Mike is also the host of two podcasts, IN LOVE WITH THE PROCESS, where he talks to artisans of all types about their journey with thier craft. And RIGHT PLACE, RIGHT TIME, where he and his acting muse Lance A. Williams talk to guests about how that phrase works in action, and how important it is in regards to succeeding in anything, ever. Both can be found here.
THE WINES
Dallas’ Wine Pairing
Gerard Betrand Trouble xp Red, France
Trouble is a bold flavor wine which compliments the bold textures of WHO’S THERE. It's darker, cloudy color also mirrors the aesthtic of the film. And the social experience of this line of wines also compliments the social nature of these types of horror or suspense films as they are almost always better when shared.
Grenache Noir | Syrah A non-filtered, cloudy, organic, vegan wine. The grapes are harvested separately when perfectly ripe, based on grape tastings performed before the harvest. Each grape variety is vinified separately. Some of the Syrah undergoes cold maceration to preserve the integrity of its aromas, whilst the rest of the Syrah and the Grenache grapes go through traditional maceration (de-stemmed harvest). Vinification is temperature controlled (maximum 25°C). The wine is not filtered or clarified, remaining cloudy. It is matured in vats to preserve its fruity aromas.
Dave’s Wine Pairing
Porto Morgado Ruby (or any Ruby or Late Bottled Vintage [LBV] Port)
One of the best ruby port values out there, this authentic Porto from Portugal is only $10.99 at Trader Joe's across the USA. If you don't live near a TJ's, I'd recommend a Ruby or LBV Port from DOW or Sandeman - skip the Taylor Fladgates, their ports are only okay at best.
If you have a Vintage port that’s ready to drink, then oh yeah, crack that f**ker open and celebrate, especially after waiting for Mike to send you the film! But I wouldn’t do a tawny, I think this film requires the fresher fruitiness of a ruby.
I wanted the richness, intense fruitiness, and sweetness of a ruby port to match the richness of the color palette, supernatural happenings, and elevated alcohol to match the intensity and “warmness” of the material.
