Let’s face it, flying these days isn’t exactly a top tier experience but it does have it bright spots. Chief among them is the expanding alcohol options that the various carriers offer. And since wine is our game, let’s discuss “Wine and the Red Eye”. I’m not a huge pure alcohol guy and beer is just nonsense - sorry not sorry. So my eyes fall right to the wine offerings on today’s flight.
And the brand on offer is Archer Roose.
Archer Roose presents a Bubbly, Sauvignon Blanc, Rosé, and Malbec.
I was curious about the brand, expecting it to be another low brow low quality entry into the canned wine space but was pleasantly surprised when i tasted the bubbly. It seems as if they are trying to crack the “adventure ready” wine market which is where the canned single serve options really shine.
According to Archer Roose’s literature…
“Archer Roose was a rebel of the Gilded Age who traveled the world with boundless curiosity, living by her own rules. The original oenophile, she explored far-flung regions on a quest for the best wines made from the finest regions. Our wines tell the stories of the places she visited, and our logo — Archer atop her moose — reminds us that adventures, like wine, should be a little whimsical.”
Oh, and guess what…to top it all off, I discover that Elizabeth Banks is their Chief Creative Officer! Yes, THAT Elizabeth Banks. Cocaine Bear Elizabeth Banks.
(By the way, if anyone gets this to Elizabeth Banks let her know that i have two scripts that I’ve written with her in mind.)
Archer Roose Bubbly has garnered positive reviews, particularly for its refreshing and light character. Wine enthusiasts appreciate its crispness and accessibility, making it a suitable choice for casual gatherings like picnics. The sparkling wine is noted for delivering a full champagne - like experience, despite being packaged in a can, which some traditionalists might initially question. Overall, it has been described as flavorful and enjoyable, appealing even to discerning wine drinkers who typically favor bottled wines.
Archer Roose's Malbec is bold in flavor and has a smooth texture with dark ripe fruit notes, accented by hints of vanilla, blackberry, and plum. Oddly crisp, with a lingering finish.
Marian Leitner-Waldman, Founder/CEO and team have done a solid job of adding a pleasant little curation of offerings to my otherwise dull little red eye.
Not generally a canned wine fan but I give this a solid rec.
Interesting, I have not seen these yet, but will try when I do. I don’t often care for canned still wines- bubbles work better for me- but always up for trying more brands and seeing improvements in that sector.
