Time Bandits and 12 Monkeys are life! I am not 100 percent sure I've seen Zero Theorem but I've seen the rest. Brazil has one of my favorite moments when he is taken down by papers. It's such an awesome practical effect. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HltbQZmego4
God, yes! Brazil is, truly, 1000 times more imaginative than Zero Theorem. But I'm very forgiving of visionary directors/creators who have already made numerous works that had a massive impact on audiences. Once you've made multiple stone cold classics that broke all the rules, you've earned the right to coast in your twilight years. There's still a lot in Zero Theorem to digest and enjoy, but Gilliam has long ago given us everything he ever had to give, I think. So now it's all just variations on his usual themes. Though for a very different kind of Gilliam film, I'd recommend checking out TIDELAND. I can't say it's an enjoyable film (it's DEPRESSING), but it's a side of Gilliam you haven't seen before.
I love reading your pieces even though I don’t read comics usually or have similar movie tastes. But it opens up my mind and the wine pairings always are ones I want to try! Thanks for making me branch out!
Glad you enjoy the wine suggestions at least! I have a wiiiiide range of movie tastes, so hopefully I'll drop something more of interest to you soon. What are your favorites, would you say? I've also got music pairings coming soon, and I've loved both of the albums you've dropped in your own stack. Never heard of either but am following them both on Spotify now!
