Upcoming Show Schedule!
Our latest show drop, plus our first Book Club livestream is happening next week, and then we breakdown our crazy schedule for September - including our first wine industry guest!
Well. We knew bringing guests on might open the floodgates, but holy cow, folks!
This post is a wee too long for email. If you want to read the whole thing (which we promise is more pictures than words ;) go here.
OUT NOW: Richard Fairgray and The Ex-Wives of Frankenstein
Our longest episode yet. We ramble on for 2+ hours with this delightful creator on his winding path in comics, children’s books, securing an American visa, crushing on Danny Devito, and then eventually (we promise!) we get around to talking about his latest, now on Kickstarter.
We Paired it With
2021 Cieck Erbaluce di Caluso ("Like drinking a melted iceberg") $22
Vignobles Lachetreau Muscadet Sevre et Maine (sold at Trader Joe's in the States, but really, any Muscadet will do) $7.99
Maraska Orahovac (Walnut liqueur from Croatia) $25-$30
Bodacious Shiraz (kind of shitty leftover bulk red wine from Ontario) $12
Richard also spotlighted a comic he loves: BUSY LITTLE BEES (Blue Fox Comics) by Marielle Bouleau, Emiliano Correa, Willi Roberts, and Rob Jones.
Which he paired with: Oyster Bay Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc (New Zealand) $10-$12
BOOK CLUB LIVESTREAM (9/2 12pm PT / 3pm ET)
Our Wine and Comics Pairing Book Club (free for all to join, anywhere in the world!) - where we read two graphic novels per month and discuss them at the end via live stream, plus pair them with beverages, of course - looks to be having it’s first Livestream on Saturday, Sept 2nd at 12pm PT/3pm ET. The poll for this is still ongoing until Sunday night, 8/27, but you can head to the Facebook page linked above to vote!
Daniel Freedman and Birdking (Week of 8/28 - 9/3)
We’re filming with writer
, writer of Image Comics’ UNDYING LOVE and BURN THE ORPHANAGE and Dark Horse’s KALI, RAIDERS and BIRDKING this coming Sunday, 8/27. Birdking Volume 2 has just dropped for pre-order - see the above image for the pre-order code! And the episode should be dropping next week, soon as I can wrap on post on the Sunday recording. Also: the photo of Daniel and the dogs (above) is one of the best photos ever snapped. RIGHT? If you don’t think so, we may have to stop being friends.
Special thanks to
for showcasing Daniel’s book KALI in his own guest episode on the show!Steven Urena and Foul Mouth (Week of 8/28 - 9/3)
Right after we wrap recording with Daniel, we’re going to roll right into a recording with none other than the writer of SLOW POKES - the hysterical horror/slasher comic about murderous sloths - and talk about his latest, FOUL MOUTH, a superhero who gets her powers from cursing, currently funding on Kickstater. This one will also (knock on wood) drop next week, as soon as I can edit the thing. *pant, pant*
September 7: Joel Rodriguez of Metal Ninja Studios and Dusk County Chronicles
Joel Rodriguez, founder of Metal Ninja Studios joined us for a crazy-fun chat about what his Studio is doing and hopes to become, and of course we also talk about his own comic, Dusk County Chronicles, the final issue of which launches on Kickstarter on September 7th. We’ll be dropping this episode on the same day!
Sept 15: Christie Shinn and Demon Bitch
Also dropping to coincide with a Kickstarter launch, we’ll be posting our wild talk with Christie on Sept 15th. We talked a lot about toxic people in our lives, how this is a constant source of inspiration for Christie’s comic DEMON BITCH, and also the comics community groups and events she’s running and organizing these days. We also bonded on our love for underground “comix” of the 80’s and 90’s.
Modern Myth Wine Project: Turning Comics into Wine (later in Sept)
Our first wine industry guest! We’ll be interviewing Sean Geary of Modern Myth Wine Project, a wine brand that MAKES WINES BASED ON COMICS.
I mean, we HAD to have these guys on the show! And I can’t think of a better first wine industry guest than this. Currently only distributed in Massachusetts, new States will be added in the coming months. But their first wine is based on the comic FRANKENROCKER by Bad Kid Press. Their second wine, about to be released, is based on the artwork of comic artist Raúl Gonzalez III (Clockwork Curandera, ¡Vamos!, Stuntwork, Lowriders).
The Wine and Comics Pairing Show will be tasting these wines and interviewing Sean and you’ll find out all the delicious, illustrative (see what I did there?) details here!
Th-th-th-that’s all for now, folks! Isn’t that enough? It feels like too much. But it’s probably not enough. Sigh….
FREEEDMAAAAAN please pass along my obsession with Kali!
