The Wines
Dave's Wine
2013 Quadrant Red Blend, Paso Robles
A blend of 3 Reds and 1 White - Petite Sirah (37%), Grenache (34%), Syrah (20%), and Viognier (9%!)
The addition of the white Viognier makes for a gentle, quaffable, yet complex blend, full of florals, herbaceousness, and light-bodied fruit.
Likely a victim of the pandemic (wine stock couldn’t be moved as easily during those years), it’s currently ONLY at Grocery Outlets for a crazy affordable $6.99 per bottle.
Dallas' Wine
Centopassi 'Cimento di Perricone' Terre Siciliane IGT
A rare wine made from 100% Perricone, an indigenous Sicilian grape!
Travis' Comic And Beverage Pairing
The Comic
Amazing Spider-Man (2022) #34
Video Review below (not our video!):
The Beverage
Pepsi-Cola: as a northern boy, I fully support this choice. Pepsi-Cola over Coca-Cola FOREVER. (Hell, I’d choose RC and Tab over Coke, I’m a rebel or something, suck it.)
David Byrne and Hospice: Skin Deep
The finale!
came on to talk about the spiciest Hopice one shot to date. Sexy, dirty, violent, and unapologetic on all fronts, this was fun one to pair:Important Links:
David’s CANCELLED comic (that’s the title, it wasn’t actually cancelled)
The Wines
Dallas’ Wine
Clos Siguier "Les Camille" Vieilles Vignes Cahors, 2019
100% Malbec; Cahors, France. This is a sister pairing to the Clos Siguier wine that Dallas' paired with Frank Martin’s Hospice: Catskills Cannibal
Dave’s Wine
"Unrestricted" Blaufrankisch; Makinaw Trail Winery, Michigan)
If you can’t swing a Michigan wine (they’re not allowed to ship to all States or internationally) then Austrian Baufrankisch should work just as well!
David’s (not Dave’s) Comic and Beer Pairing
Y THE LAST MAN (Vertigo/DC Comics)
One of the last great series to be released from Vertigo before the adult readers label was closed down by parent publisher, DC, Y the Last Man is a post-apocalyptic epic about a virus that wipes out every man on Earth, leaving only the women behind…expect one man who survives due to a fluke.
Written by Brian K. Vaughn and art by Pia Guerra, “Y” is part sci-fi mystery, part socio-political satire, part horror-thriller, it’s a series that has left a serious mark on most readers of a certain generation, and has since become a Hulu TV series:
The Beer
Yuengling Lager
Yeah. The last man on Earth would probably drink this, it’s true.
What’s Next?
I’m glad you asked! We’ll continue to have about an episode per week dropping for the rest of Sept and through Oct, but whoo boy, we need to slow down and take a mini-break!
PLUS, and this is burying the lede, I know…
Our First Kickstarter is dropping in October!!!
The prelaunch page should be up within the next 1-2 weeks. Our energy will thus be diverted into putting the final touches on this thing and running the campaign from Mid-October - Mid-November.
“WaCPS” (Wine and Comics PubliShing) will be bringing one of our favorite comics back into print, an old-school indie underground “comix" epic from the 80’s and 90’s, ARMAGEDDONQUEST by Ronald Russell Roach.
The first issue will be a 52-page bad boy, the coming-of-age story of a reluctant, nice guy Antichrist. More info on this VERY SOON. But wanted to drop this first of hints :)
Heading to Michigan again next week, will have to grab that Mackinaw trail wine- I used to live up in Harbor Springs- some good wines up north!
