Steve Urena and Foul Mouth, plus Our First Livestream is tomorrow!
Our convo with the hysterical Steve Urena just dropped, and Wednesday @ 5pm PT / 8pm ET we're doing our first of SIX interconnected Livestreams!
Cursing is Her Superpower!
If that sounds like your cup of tea, you absolutely must check out Steve Urena’s FOUL MOUTH, currently raising funds on Kickstarter:
And you heard it here first, folks: we were the first! We’re #1! We’re #1! We were the first to get the privilege to read the full completed first issue, and as I mention in the video, it’s Steve’s best work yet.
What We Paired it With
Dave went with something sweet ‘n spicy (and high ABV) going with a “curse like a sailor” motif!
Dallas went with something fresh and vibrant (for those of us who like to “Get fresh” when we’re angry):
Steve’s Comic and Bev Pairing
FOG LINE is about a father harboring a pretty dreadful secret from his past. When he hears a radio show that suggests someone in the present day may know something about his secret, he begins to spiral.
The art by Andy Michael reminds me of David Lapham and Stray Bullets. I have not, unfortunately, read the comic, written by Mario Candelaria, as it’s now OOP and not currently available, not even in digital (Steve reports that Mario is currently pitching the book to publishers, post-Kickstarter.)
But follow both of those creators to be notified when the book is available again, and to get in on the ground floor for whatever they do next! Plainly those of us who didn’t give to the Fog Line Kickstarter have now missed the eff out.
Paired With…
Because this is what the main character of Fog Line would be drinking as he spirals. ‘Nuff said!
Tomorrow! Our First Livestream with !
You can join us tomorrow here, on our YouTube channel, though this will also be streaming on our Facebook and Twitter accounts, so whichever you prefer! We’ll open the stream to questions at the end, and you can comment all throughout, or you can lurk and simply watch as it happens in real time.
This is the first of SIX Livestreams where we interview the creators of the six HOSPICE one-shot comics, each with their our Kickstarter campaign, but which take place in a shared universe. Two campaigns per week, two livestreams per week, though we’ll be concluding with Travis Gibb’s, the mastermind behind the whole shebang.
Notable Comics Stuff on Substack
- announced the six Hospice comics.
- announces the launch of Metal Ninja Studio’s DUSK COUNTY CHRONICLES concluding chapter on 9/7. We interviewed Joel Rodriguez of Metal Ninja and will be dropping that episode on the 7th!
- breaks down how she got to 200 PAID subscribers on Substack, and how the native Substack network was not (and won’t likely ever be) the main source.
Notable Wine Stuff on Substack
- by discusses how American wine drinkers are aging up / “greying”. This is part of the reason we created our Wine and Comics Pairing Show - to bring the joy of wine to a younger audience, and insert something new and a bit more frolicking into the mix. Will it work? Time will tell.
- over at posted a wonderful Labor Day-themed post chronicling the recent state of the alcohol industry in terms of unionization and worker well-being. It’s not the happiest report, but it is a wonderful reminder to look into what you’re buying, drinking, and supporting by doing so.
Hey thanks for sharing, folks.
